Meet Jennifer Ball

  • Travel guides – My first trip abroad was to Amsterdam when I was 18, and I’ve had the travel bug ever since. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit six continents (and will get to Antarctica one day!) My favourite countries visited to date are Croatia, Thailand and New Zealand.
  • Toy train – Until my little boy started playing with trains, I’d never realised quite how much they fascinate me too. My dad is a big train buff and I have many happy childhood memories of riding the Great Central Railway in Loughborough. I’m loving being able to rediscover this all again many years later, and on my days off can often be found helping my son create train tracks around our living room.
  • WI Badge – I joined our local Women’s Institute after 3 years living in our village and not finding any other way to meet people. I’m now an active member, have been vice-president for 2 years, and count some of the ladies amongst my very good friends. The WI does have a bit of a reputation for jam and Jerusalem but at the end of the day I love spending time with like-minded people doing things we all enjoy.
  • Notepad and name badge – Before moving to Esker, I spent 10+ years as an event manager, planning and running everything from awards dinners to global conferences. Old habits die hard and I’m always on the lookout for new things to do, places to go, events to attend.
  • Gluten free sign – I’ve been gluten free for over 5 years and as a big lover of food feel like I’m on a constant quest for decent gf products. Pizza and afternoon tea are two of my favourites and I’m always happy to receive recommendations!
  • Recipe book – I love baking and particularly decorating cakes, and have my own blog to showcase my creations. I was delighted to have my pumpkin cake recipe published in this book a few years ago.
  • Needle & thread and sewing scissors – In those rare quiet moments I find cross stitching so relaxing. My mum has huge pieces adorning her walls and I’d love to do the same in our house one day too. My current piece is a mammoth 33,000+ stitches that I’d really love to finish by the end of the year.
  • Cats – I’m definitely a cat person, we always had them at home when I was growing up. When my now-husband and I first moved in together it was only a matter of months before we got some of our own! We adopted two sisters from the RSPCA – Chilli and Pepper.
